Get the kids ready. Get yourself ready (sort of). Drop them off. Go to work. Leave work. Pick the kids up. Get the kids down. Finish work. Drop dead for the night. Sleep? Crawl out of bed. Start all over again.  

And for that short moment before you fall asleep, you wish it could be different. 

When you’re at work, you’re worrying about family. And when you’re at home, you’re stressed about work.  

You need caffeine to wake you up and keep you going. You need wine to help you relax and sleep at night.

Maybe you felt like you were doing ok, treading water with one kid, but now with two or three, you are drowning.

You feel like you’re constantly in melt down mode. Like your head is about to explode.

You feel guilty. Resentful. Short-tempered.  

You don't recognize yourself.

You don't understand your kids.

Your significant other doesn't feel all that significant anymore. 

Every day is a grind.

No joy. No thriving.

 

You are in survival mode. 

This is not what you expected from motherhood. It was not what you signed up for.

And the best news...this is not what working motherhood needs to feel like, either.

My name is Alexandra Hughes and I know too well the challenges of trying to be everything to everyone. 

When I became a Mom, motherhood chewed me up, swallowed me whole and then spit me out as an unrecognizable, mad, crazy woman.

The weight of my responsibility for young lives, my lack of freedom, my ever confused identity, my altered relationship with the man I loved, the isolation from friends and social events that had been such an active part of my life – these drove me to the brink of insanity.

It was the confusion, the exhaustion, the frustration, the resentment, the overwhelm of it all.

And the guilt of not getting it right. Oh the guilt!

The myth. The romantic myth that motherhood is blissful. The myth that as working Moms we can have it all and be there for everyone.

It did not take very long for that myth to come crashing down on my sanity and self-confidence.

After a generous maternity leave (where I nearly went bonkers!) I went back to work. It would be better that way. The financial burden would lessen. My mind would be challenged. I’d have adults to talk to. I’d come home happy and fulfilled.

But here’s what actually happened: Life became a guilt-plagued balancing act. A box ticking repetitive groundhog day. 

I was miserable, stressed, overwhelmed and completely disconnected from myself and my family.

And so when baby #3 came along, he brought along with him a moment of awakening. Maternity leave shone a mirror on what I was missing.

My high-strung-hamster-wheel-guilt-plagued lifestyle was getting in the way of the most important moments and relationships in my life.

 

So I stopped. I started to learn to stay calm and enjoy the ride;

I started to re-learn motherhood.

Fast forward 6 years...I have retrained as a professional life coach, founded my practice and an online business while raising 3 beautiful children as lead parent, and managing a household of 5. All navigated through 2 international moves!

And I've done this from a place of love and presence. No regrets.

Life hasn't been a piece of cake and it gets messy and stressy sometimes, but I've consciously designed a life where I feel healthy, energized, present and in love and connection with those around me.

And today I have tapped into my personal experience and my professional training to help dozens of mothers from around the world to do the same - to create lives they love (and that love them back!).

Mindfulness strategies, tools and techniques to support you to not only manage your stress, to improve your productivity levels and to connect and be fully present with those you love most. Calm Joyful Mom is a 90-day 1x1 Mentorship Coaching Intensive for busy Moms ready to commit to creating lives they love
